Peruvian-Canadian artist. Mainly self-taught. My arts education includes: "Figure Drawing" from the Ontario College of Arts; "Acrylics" from the Central Technical School; and "Figure Drawing and Portraiture" from George Brown College. I started to paint regularly in 1996 using oils, and then switched to acrylics in 2000. My inspiration draws from artists (such as Fernando Botero, Vincent van Gogh, Frida Khalo), objects of the daily life, and most recently, from my research.
My work is based on acrylics with bright colours, volumes and curves. I would like to transcend the physical sphere and examine the inner life of each character and object that I depict, as well as to study their purpose and role. There is something curious in each subject that I portray. For me, voluptuous people and curved objects are beautiful and evoke happiness, and through exaggerations they become friendly. In essence, Art is the intersection of bright colours, spontaneous volumes, curves, feelings and beauty.
My academic background is in higher education. In June 2009, I completed a Master of Education in Higher Education in collaboration with the Comparative International program at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education of the University of Toronto (OISE/UT). Currently, at the same university, I am pursuing a flex-time PhD in Theory and Policy Studies in education. My research interest centers in Arts Education Policy.
